Best Salt Lake City Neighborhoods to Get Active

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah, and it’s a well-kept secret. It has all the entertainment value of a big city but with the price and view of a more rural area. By just looking outside, you’ll see why Salt Lake City is so popular– the mountains and bodies of water make it a stunning spot to enjoy nature. In fact, the neighborhoods offer plenty of opportunities to get active.

Here are a few great Salt Lake City neighborhoods where you’ll want to spend your time doing outdoor activities.

Rose Park

Located on the north side of Salt Lake City, Rose Park is a lovely and active neighborhood. The area is full of parks, golf courses, and trails to get you on your feet. They include:

Rosewood Park: This green space is located on the neighborhood’s east side and includes sports fields, courts, a skate park and jogging path. Whether you want to play a game of tennis with friends or go for a morning run, Rosewood Park has you covered.

Jordan River Parkway Trail: This biking, walking and running trail follows the Jordan River. No matter your choice of activity, you’ll enjoy the fresh Salt Lake City air and water view as you get active.

Jordan River State Park: This park is 4.8 miles long and home to plenty of outdoor activities. Camp under the stars, enjoy a kayak trip down the river or mountain bike on the hilly terrain. The park feels like a rural haven, but is in fact only about 9 miles from downtown Salt Lake City.

Rose Park Golf Course: As you work your way through this 18-hole course, you’ll be looking at views of mountainous surroundings. The scenery alone is enough to take your breath away. Of course, walking on the green all day can wear you out too.

The Avenues

The Avenues neighborhood is situated on the northeast side of Salt Lake City and reaches into the Wasatch Mountain Range. Access to the beautiful surroundings makes this neighborhood the perfect place to get active.

Tomahawk Natural Area: This slice of nature is in the mountains and offers visitors a place to hike, picnic and enjoy Utah’s stunning scenery. Be sure to pick up any trash you bring so as not to disturb the natural area.

Little Black Mountain: Though the elevation on this summit is lower than others in the area, Little Black Mountain is an excellent spot to spend time outdoors. Because the terrain isn’t too steep, the mountain is popular with runners who want to train on an incline.

Glendale

On the west side of Salt Lake City, Glendale is a small but exciting neighborhood. It’s one of the most diverse areas in the city, and has many amenities fit for people looking to get active.

International Peace Gardens: This beautiful garden is a sanctuary for conservation, and it attracts outdoor events, such as the Swedish Midsummer Festival. As you walk or jog through the area, you’ll see all manner of colorful trees, flowers, and shrubs. The garden lives up to its name, as it is perhaps one of the most calming spots in Salt Lake City.

Glendale Golf Course: Soak up vitamin D and get in your daily walk by playing a game at Glendale Golf Course. The popular course attracts people of all skill levels and provides views of the nearby mountains.

Whether you’re a serious jogger, hobbyist hiker, or leisurely golf player, Salt Lake City is home to neighborhoods that provide outdoor activities. With its proximity to awe-inspiring mountain ranges and clear skies, this city is perfect for those who love to be surrounded by nature.
