A nursing home is a place for people to live who need more care than is available to them at home. It has on-site nurses and aides, different kinds of therapy available and even includes prepared meals.
1. A nursing home has 24-hour care
There is always staff, including nurses and aides, available in nursing homes. They’re only a call away and will periodically check in on residents to make sure they’re taken care of, including checking their vitals and giving them their medication.
2. There’s less privacy and independence
Since many residents are limited to what they can do by themselves, they often have other people by their side to help them with daily tasks. This makes it difficult for them to have a lot of privacy as nurses and aides are always checking in on them.
3. Nursing homes are expensive
It can cost a lot to live in a nursing home since residents are paying for a full staff to give care all day long. It also costs a lot to have an on-site team that prepares all of the food and cleans up after every meal.

A nursing home isn’t for everyone
Nursing homes aren’t the right fit for everyone. They’re commonly associated with seniors, but that doesn’t mean only seniors live there or that there aren’t other options. There are many seniors who are active and independent, so living in a facility like a nursing home isn’t necessary or ideal. Rather, they can look at other options, such as a continuing care community or assisted living center.
