Controlled access apartments are those that permit only select people to enter the apartment building. They do this through a variety of methods, including physical keys, pin numbers or codes, key cards or even through the building’s staff.
1. A controlled access apartment is not the same as an apartment with gated access
Gated access will get select people onto the premises, but once they’re in, they can roam throughout an entire complex. Controlled access is much more strict and limits not only who can enter the premises, but who gets into certain buildings and floors.
2. Controlled access apartments are more private and secure
Controlled access apartments usually let in residents and those who work at the apartment building, creating a safer and more private environment for residents. Others, including friends, can’t just wander into your building and roam free. If anyone wants to get in, they’ll need to be buzzed in by you or a staff member. This keeps unwanted guests from entering the building and disturbing residents.

3. You’ll pay a little more for a controlled access apartment
Maintaining a highly secure building can be expensive — creating key cards, monitoring access code panels and keeping track of security cameras means there may need to be more staff members onsite and special technology needs to be purchased. These things aren’t cheap and you’ll be footing the bill for them.
A controlled access apartment may not be a need
While a controlled access apartment is nice, for most people, it’s more of a want. If you live in a safe area, there isn’t much of a need for extreme security, so keep that in mind when deciding whether or not you’re going to live in a controlled access apartment.
